I have mixed ancestry, Metis, English and French. I am a mother, a sister, an auntie, and a nookoomis. I have been involved in the water walks and water ceremony for a number of years, in training. I follow the Anishinaabek teachings of Josephine Mandaamin baa, and my Elder is Mary Anne Caibaiosai.
I am thrilled to be invited to involved in this sacred event, sharing the beauty of ceremony. Miigwetch
Protocols for women around moon time- when on their moon time, the bodies of those with ovaries are cleansing, or in ceremony. During this time their bodies are following the sacred instructions, and as such do not need to come to ceremony. While we do want people to attend, those on their moon time are encouraged to stay at home for self care, or to do ceremony on their own.
What to wear? People that identify as women are encouraged to wear skirts.
Why Alliance Weekend?
Alliance Weekend was created to heighten awareness to the ongoing suppression of Indigenous People in Canada, the lands in which we reside.
Thousands of Indigenous People in Canada do not have access to clean water, ongoing GENOCIDE of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, Girls and 2 Spirited Individuals, continuous discoveries of unmarked graves from Residential Schools, Arrests and Violent treatment of Land Defenders, Exorbitant cost of food on reserves, Nature destroyed by Dams, Pipelines, Oil Sands and Industry, Mik’maq Fishing Crisis, Colonization of Traditional Indigenous Ways. We are offering this in respect and alliance for the First Peoples of these lands and to support Indigenous Artisans and Indigenous Initiatives.
As we are initiated to work with medicine from South America, we have also formed alliances with the Matses Tribe and Q’ero Paqos to ensure sacred reciprocity and that medicine is being recollected ethically.
