How to Tell if Your Sunscreen is Toxic?

Do you need to wear sunscreen daily?

Yes - at least where your face is concerned! Sunscreen is one product that I use on my face all year round. Why? To prevent sun damage and photo-aging.

Don't get me wrong, we need regular sun exposure for Vitamin D production and good health, however, there is plenty of research showing the long term effects of sun damage and the benefits of protecting your face.

The scary thing is that, the majority of the sunscreens on the market are extremely toxic, causing hormonal disruption and cellular damage. It is really important to your health to avoid the sunscreen products with toxic chemicals. One of the main ingredients you want to avoid is oxybenzone, whereas,  zinc oxide is one of the safest and most effective ingredients.

How do you know which products to avoid? There is an amazing site called Environmental Working Groups Skin Deep (EWGs Skin Deep), where you can look up products, their ingredients, and how they rate in terms of toxicity. I always use this site to look up any product before I purchase it - even though I always make sure to purchase skin care products from health food stores that I know use good quality control, I still like to know about the ingredients in the products I am using.

I just discovered Keys Moisturizer with Sunscreen SPF 30 and I absolutely love it. I looked it up on the EWGs Skin Deep and it has a low hazard rating. It goes on nicely (as in has no greasy after effects), has a slight tint to it, and leaves your skin with an iridescent natural glow.

Check out these awesome ingredients:

  • Zinc Oxide
  • Purified water
  • Shea butter
  • Avocado fruit oil
  • Black seed oil
  • OptiFX (tinted foundation)
  • Carrot seed oil
  • Vegetable glycerine USP
  • Red palm vegetable wax
  • Aloe Vera
  • Blood orange essential oil
  • Clary sage essential oil
  • Rosemary essential oil

When I went on to the Keys website to get some more information about their products, I learned that the founder of Keys survived Melanoma several times. She was having terrible skin reactions from prescription, not to mention expensive skincare products. Because of her experiences, she saw the need for a chemical-free line of skin care, using quality ingredients. I love when companies start with stories like this.

Keys describes their products as: Pharmaceutical grade, ingredients in therapeutic proportions. Using ancient remedies, natural medicines, whole natural ingredients, aromatherapy and aboriginal homeopathy combined with modern technology to provide safe and effective products for people and pets with skin disorders, sensitive skin, post cancer recovery or those wanting to avoid chemicals in their lives.

I think the Keys Moisturizer with Sunscreen is an incredible product with quality, natural ingredients. This moisturizer is under the KPRO series, which is inspired by Hollywood makeup artists and filmmakers. Keys KPRO products use OptiFXTM Adaptive Color Technology that creates the trendy nude bare skin look in a 1-step chemical-free foundation. This amazing technology smooths out skin tone by copying the skin colour and texture. Yes, my friends, the future is here!

I am impressed with the price of $29.95 for a 100 ml bottle, especially because a little goes a long way. On top of this all - Keys Moisturizer with Sunscreen is an anti-aging product. I always love discovering new natural skin care products and can't wait to share more with you!

What daily facial sunscreen do you use?
